Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, along with 17 other defendants, has been indicted in Arizona’s phoney elector case for his role in an attempt to overturn former President Donald Trump’s defeat to President Biden in the 2020 election, according to the state’s attorney general.
Late on Friday, Arizona’s Attorney General Kris Mayes shared the information on the Trump-aligned attorney on her X account.

According to Richie Taylor, an attorney general spokeswoman, Giuliani faces the same allegations as the other defendants, including conspiracy, fraud, and forgery.
Giuliani’s spokesperson, Ted Goodman, verified that he was served Friday night as he walked to his car following his 80th birthday celebration.
“The mayor was served after the party and as he was walking to his car,” Goodman told CBS News in a statement Saturday night.

The indictment claims Giuliani “pressured” Arizona legislators and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to affect the outcome of Arizona’s election, and that he was responsible for urging Republican electors in Arizona and six other contentious states to vote for Trump.

According to Taylor, the indictment will be made public on Monday without any redactions. He stated that unless the judge grants Giuliani a postponement, he is anticipated to appear in court on Tuesday.

 

Others indicted in the case include Mark Meadows, Trump’s former chief of staff.
Meadows and Giuliani were not named in the previously published redacted grand jury indictment because they were not served with it, but they were easily identified based on the document’s descriptions. Meadows was served on Wednesday, and the Arizona attorney general’s office verified that he was charged with the same offences as the other identified defendants, including conspiracy, fraud, and forgery.

With the indictments, Arizona becomes the fourth state where former president’s aides have been charged with making false or unfounded accusations about electoral fraud.

Giuliani is facing additional legal actions, and a bankruptcy judge stated this week that he was “disturbed” by the status of the case and missed deadlines to file financial disclosure reports. Giuliani declared bankruptcy after being ordered to pay $148 million to two former election workers who circulated a fake conspiracy theory about their role in the 2020 election.

 

Giuliani was also indicted by a grand jury in Georgia last year, accused of leading Trump’s efforts to coerce state lawmakers to violate voter will and fraudulently appoint pro-Trump electoral college electors.

The Arizona Republican Party broadcast a one-minute video of the signing ceremony on social media at the time. The document was then forwarded to Congress and the National Archives, where it was ignored.

Biden received more than 10,000 votes in Arizona.
Eastman, who designed a scheme to urge Congress not to recognise the election, became the first person accused in Arizona’s false elector case on Friday. He entered a not guilty plea to the accusations of fraud, conspiracy, and forgery.

Outside the courthouse, Eastman issued a brief statement, claiming that the allegations against him should never have been filed.
“I had no contact with Arizona voters and no engagement in any election disputes or legislative proceedings. And I am convinced that if the laws are followed correctly, I will be entirely exonerated at the end of this process,” Eastman stated. He refused to comment further.
Twelve more defendants in the case, nine of whom are Republicans and who allegedly provided a letter to Congress claiming that Trump had won Arizona, will be arraigned on May 21.

According to the Arizona indictment, Eastman encouraged GOP electors to vote in December 2020, unsuccessfully lobbied state lawmakers to change the election’s outcome in Arizona, and told then-Vice President Mike Pence: Refers to the Vice President of the United States at the time, Mike Pence.
